This listing is for airplant container measuring approx.
5" w x 3.25" h.
The planter was handmade on the potters wheel. After the initial firing, the piece was then raku fired with white crackle glaze painted in a spotted pattern. The raku process is responsible for highlighting the black crackle lines on the piece.
While the piece was red hot, it was removed from the kiln and placed in a combustion chamber with leaves, newsprint, hay and sawdust where it ignites. After 30-60 seconds, a lid is placed on the chamber where the flames are starved for oxygen. It is in this moment where the magic happens and carbon gets trapped in the glaze as it is cooling to leave the black lines in the glaze.
Winter Notice- due to the cold temperatures, and the unavailability of heat packs for shipping, the airplant is not included in shipped pieces. Thank you for understanding.
