This listing is for one vase.
This piece was hand made on the potter’s wheel from porcelain clay by Lindsey. The clay was altered while still wet to create the flower petal inspired form. The zinc crystals covering the surface of the piece are a bright white, opalescent and gold color with an opal/gold background. These crystals really glow in the light!
- 7” tall and approx. 6” diameter.
Due to the unique nature of crystalline glazes, no two pieces are ever alike. The crystals are actually grown during the firing and cooling process (which reaches over 2300 degrees Fahrenheit). Silver nitrate was added to the glaze to give the golden color. The time and temperature must be accurate in order to achieve crystal growth on the piece.
This vase was fired a third time after the initial glaze firing, in a gas kiln to bring out the opalescent nature.
