It was fired in a raku kiln and while the piece was red hot, it was removed from the kiln and placed in a can with combustible material where it caught on fire. A lid was placed on the can which changed the atmosphere around the horse to create the color changes in the glaze. The body of the horse was glazed in a white crackle raku glaze. There are silver elements from the firing along with the white crackle patterns. \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eOnce cool, the horse was removed from the can and cleaned to show the colors of the horse. There is a wire in the head and tail, but the horse is hollow. This horse is free-standing. Nails were used as legs for the horse and worked into the body of the clay. Each one is handmade so there are never two alike. \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan\u003eAs expected with a Raku firing, the thermal shock coming out of the kiln is extreme. This can produce small crackles on the surface which mirror the fragile strength of the horse.
