The piece was made by Lindsey from stoneware clay and glaze fired to over 2200 degrees in a clear glaze on the outside with a rainbow of colors inside. After the glaze firing, it was painted with a mother of pearl luster and fired a third time. This results in the rainbow/mother of pearl luster on the outside of the mug.
